Party season is upon us, which means lots of late nights, Christmas cocktails and minimal sleep. To help get you ready for the festive madness, we put together some simple skin care tips to help get you looking your best no matter how many party invitations you get.

Woman with flawless skin

We turned to Bethany Hilt, skin care expert and creator and president/CEO of Vertere, the first and only line of skin care products specifically created to simultaneously improve the appearance of aging, hyperpigmentation and adult acne with one regimen. She shares her top tips for keeping skin party-ready and looking fabulous for the entire festive season.

Stress and skin

The holiday season can be a joyous time of year, but it’s also a time when we experience many stressors all at once. We’re overscheduled far more than usual, hosting out-of-town guests, gift shopping and wrapping, decorating and trying to please multiple people all at once. "This causes stress to mount and it can show up on your skin," Hilt explains.

Overindulgence and skin

Holiday cocktails can be hard to pass up, but moderation is important. "Too much alcohol can leave your skin looking lifeless the next day from dehydration and blocked absorption of vitamins and minerals," Hilt says. Too many sweets or simple carbohydrates are also to blame for a lackluster complexion. "They can make your skin look puffy and can also cause collagen to deteriorate."

So what’s a girl to do? Follow these skin care tips for a fresh face that’s ready for its closeup this holiday.

Plan ahead

Schedule a peel or facial one to two weeks in advance to make sure any irritation has subsided by the night of your event, Hilt advises. The last thing you need is to look red and irritated in your holiday photos.

Use a multi-tasking moisturizer

'Tis the season to find a moisturizer that will do some serious skin-saving work for you. The sooner you can add a power-packed product to your routine, the sooner you’ll reap the benefits. Look for a moisturizer with sun protection, brighteners , skin plumpers, wrinkle-smoothers, blemish erasers and skin lighteners so you have every potential skin care concern covered in time for the party circuit.

Increase hydration

Staying hydrated is one of the most important skin care steps you can take towards making sure your skin looks great for any event you’re attending. "From drinking more water to using a humidifier at night, get more moisture into your environment and body to combat the drier weather which can cause skin to look tight and flaky," Hilt explains.

Keep tea tree oil on-hand

It always seems to be the case that on the eve of a big event, an ill-placed spot appears. "Avoid that last- minute pimple ruining your night by dabbing tea tree oil on the first sign of a blemish," Hilt says. "It will most likely greatly diminish or disappear by morning."

Add mechanical exfoliation

Get your skin ultra-smooth with a little extra effort. Whether you use a loofah sponge or washcloth, Hilt advises adding extra exfoliation to your routine while you cleanse to boost smoothness, minimize pores and reduce flakiness.
