Khloe and Lamar take New Orleans: A big Kardashian move?

Posted by Johan

Rumor has it that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom might be heading to New Orleans after an NBA trade. Will the Kardashians take over the Big Easy?

Khloe Kardashian Lamar OdomThey have taken L.A., Miami and New York City -- and now the Kardashians may be poised to conquer New Orleans!

The Los Angeles Lakers are in talks to trade Khloe Kardashian's husband Lamar Odom to the New Orleans Hornets -- and that would mean at least part of the Kardashian clan would be moving to the Big Easy -- for a good chunk of the year, at least.

Is Khloe Kardashian seeking fertility help? >>

Don't count your beignets before they're fried, though -- the NBA has rejected the trade at the last minute.

"I guess that means I'm a Laker if the trade didn't go through,” Odom told the Los Angeles Times. "I don't know what to do for the Lakers. I'm even weirded out by the league doing what they did. I don't know what to do.”

Khloe Kardashian sued for alleged beatdown >>

Odom says he was in disbelief when the rumors of the potential trade surfaced -- but now he feels like persona non grata with his home team.

"I don't know what I'm going to do. I'll pray about it," he said.

"Maybe I'll see you there tomorrow [at practice],” Odom said. "But I doubt it. You don't want to go to no place you're not wanted. I'll try to give them what they want as much as possible.”

"Man, I'm just in total disbelief about all of this,” Odom continued. "They don't want my services, for whatever reason. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I was proud to be a Laker, so I'll try to help them in the process as much as possible."

Odom does have at least one cheerleader in his corner: his wife. Khloe tweeted her support of her husband tonight, writing, "I love you Lamar!!!!! There's NO one like you! I'm so proud to be your wife :)"

So for now, the Kardashians will not be taking New Orleans.

Tell us: What city should the Kardashians take over next?

Meryl Streep is an Iron Lady -- see the new trailer!

Posted by Johan

See how Meryl Streep embodies Margaret Thatcher in the new trailer for The Iron Lady.

Is there anything Meryl Streep can't do? The second trailer for her new film, The Iron Lady, hit the web today -- and it shows exactly why Streep is the best female actress of her time.

Meryl Streep plays Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady

In The Iron Lady, Streep portrays Margaret Thatcher as she rose through the ranks of the British Parliament to become the country's first -- and only -- female prime minister. The film is being touted as an extremely intimate tale of Thatcher's life.

Streep's portrayal of Thatcher is already bringing talk of an Academy Award. However, she's not worried about that yet. Instead, she hopes The Iron Lady will inspire people to look beyond someone's age and realize there's a colorful past there.

"A whole huge life lay behind all those wrinkles and those seemingly non-descript, forgettable [women]," Streep told the audience during a New York City screening earlier this week. "There is nothing less exciting in our consumer society than an old lady, [but] the whole panoply of human experience is in there, to just imagine that -- that's what I would hope [when people watch this film]."

The Iron Lady also explores Thatcher's dementia. Streep said she hopes it brings awareness to the disease.

"We've all had that moment where you can't remember why you went upstairs and so it was extrapolating that feeling of disorientation, momentary as it is," she told the BBC.

"I wanted to capture whatever it was that drew people to her or meant people have a special venom for her," she added.

Lauren Scruggs walking after horrific propeller accident

Posted by Johan

Model and former Gossip Girl intern Lauren Scruggs is improving after an airplane accident almost took her life earlier this month.

A former Gossip Girl intern is conscious and walking after a near-fatal accident with an airplane propeller earlier this week.

Gossip Girl intern Lauren Scruggs improving

"Lauren walks!" reads a statement on Lauren Scruggs' CaringBridge web page.

"This morning... a physical therapist assisted Lauren in walking for the first time. Once she got halfway there, she said, '30.'"

"Not sure what she meant, [her family] asked her what that means, she replied, 'Steps!' What a praise, she was counting every step that she took!"

Very remarkable, indeed, given that the pretty model's future was fairly grim after the Dec. 3 accident. Scruggs, 23, was exiting the small plane after taking a short trip to look at Christmas lights. It's believed she turned her head and walked into the propeller, leaving her with serious facial and body injuries and a severed hand.

Pssst... check out all of our Gossip Girl secrets >>

"Lauren’s surgery went very well this morning," according to a statement posted on Tuesday. "She is now resting in ICU with the family. She is able to open her right eye to see while her left eye is still bandaged. Please continue to pray for the vision of her left eye, as we will not know the status of her sight for some time."

"They’re telling us it’s going to be a long recovery," her father told Good Morning America. "Obviously she’s had a lot of trauma to her head, and she lost her left hand and her left eye is questionable. We’re praying she’ll regain her sight. What she’d tell you is her relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in her life. Even though she cannot talk I know she’s relying on Jesus right now."

"Lauren is a go-getter, her progress has been phenomenal. She is going to fight and she will fight through this. She will make it through," her mother said.

Parents think about lawsuit

Her parents are happy she's improving, but they're furious the accident happened in the first place and want answers.

"Lauren’s family is one of the nicest you’ll ever meet," a source told HollywoodLife.com of the Dallas-based family. "The last thing they want is revenge. But they feel like someone should be held accountable for the lack of safety and good judgment on the runway. It wasn’t entirely Lauren’s fault and they want justice and answers."

Lawyers are already contacting the family to take this to court.

"They aren’t looking to make any money off of this," the source added. "They just want to find out what happened and make sure what happened to Lauren never happens to anyone else’s son or daughter."

How about they just let her heal before rolling out the litigation?

Heatless Hairstyles: Easy & Cute Hair Styles Without Heat

Posted by Johan

Heatless hair styles are great for those who don't have a lot of time, and/or for women who have damaged hair. As for the latter, blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons, and hot rollers all have great potential to damage your hair, and should not be used every day. Since you don't want to have a head of frizzy, damaged hair, you should consider using hairstyles that don't require heat. When styling hair with no heat, you'll need bobby pins, a spray bottle, water, mousse, hair spray and leave-in conditioner. Basic hair styles or natural hairstyles that don't require heat can be spiced up by using hair accessories like headbands, barrettes, ribbons or scarves. No new baby after all: Michelle Duggar miscarries

Posted by Johan

Michelle Duggar has to put her dreams for a 20th child on hold -- the reality mom has suffered a miscarriage.

There won't be a 20th Duggar baby after all -- at least not yet. Michelle Duggar has sadly suffered a miscarriage in her second trimester of pregnancy.

The Duggar family

Michelle told People she and Jim Bob Duggar found out the sad news at a routine check-up last Thursday when doctors were unable to find their baby's heartbeat.

"After the appointment, we came back home and told the children," Michelle, 45, told People.

"We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment."

Click here for more celebrity pregnancies on SheKnows >>

"I feel like my heart broke telling my children," said Michelle. "They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."

Jim Bob initially broke the news on the family's website.

"Earlier today at a routine doctor's appointment, Michelle and I received the sad news that we lost the baby," he wrote. "Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the entire family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but ask for privacy during this difficult time."

The couple said they plan to select a name and hold a funeral service after doctors determine the gender of the baby.

This isn't the first time the stars of 19 Kids and Counting have experienced baby heartbreak. Michelle miscarried during her second pregnancy, leading the couple to decide to follow their Quiverfull lifestyle.

Their last child, Josie, was born extremely premature at just 25 weeks. "She is a miracle baby and all of us are so lucky to have her," Michelle said. "Just the fact that she's here is just that something to be grateful about."

The Duggars announced their pregnancy on the Today show in November.

Michelle's second trimester loss is rare. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, only one to five percent of pregnancies are lost between 13 and 19 weeks' gestation .

Batman artist Jerry Robinson dead at 89

Posted by Johan

Batman artist and Joker creator Jerry Robinson has died. He passed away in his sleep on Thursday at the age of 89. He's survived by his wife, children and the millions of comic fans he touched over the years.

Jerry Robinson Today, the comic book world mourns a legend. It's been confirmed that pioneer Jerry Robinson has died. The famous cartoonist was best known for his iconic additions to the Batman comics.

More celebrity deaths >>

Robinson's career started early on, when Batman creator Bob Kane discovered him at Columbia University in 1939. He was only 17 years old but was hired to work as an inker and letterer. Shortly after, he came up with a design for The Joker, and despite Kane and writer Bill Finger's attempts to credit themselves, most historians give Robinson that honor.

According to CNN, DC Entertainment co-publisher Jim Lee openly acknowledges Robinson's contributions to not only Batman but the DC brand.

"Jerry Robinson illustrated some of the defining images of pop culture's greatest icons. As an artist myself, it's impossible not to feel humbled by his body of work. Everyone who loves comics owes Jerry a debt of gratitude for the rich legacy that he leaves behind."

In the 1970s, Robinson supported fellow cartoonists Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster during a legal battle with DC Comics over compensation and recognition for Superman. That wouldn't be the first or last time he used his talent and name to voice his opinion. Robinson also worked as a satirist for the comic strip Still Life, which was filled with irreverent, political commentary.

In an official statement, Michael Uslan, comic historian and executive producer of the Batman films says it best.

"Batman has lost another father. Farewell to my dear, dear friend, mentor and idol, Jerry Robinson. His creative work is immortal as co-creator of The Joker, Robin the Boy Wonder, and the visualizations of Alfred, The Penguin and many more. Jerry elevated comic books as art and fought for respectability for all his fellow artists. He fought for Siegal and Shuster's names to be restored on Superman.

Thanks, Jerry."

Octomom Nadya Suleman shares parenting tips on OctoTV

Octomom Nadya Suleman has launched a new venture! Every Sunday you can now watch the mother of 14 in the OctoTV web series.

Nadya Suleman, known widely by the nickname Octomom, is bringing in some much needed cash for her family of 14 children by filming weekly episodes for a new web series titled OctoTV. Just what will one of the most hated people in America be sharing with the world wide web? This, that and a bit of parenting advice.

Nadya Suleman Octomom

A message on the brand-new YouTube channel reads, "Welcome to OctoTV. This is Nadya Suleman but you all know me as 'Octomom'. Now the tables have turned and I am running the show, tune in as I will be hitting on parenting, fitness, diet, nutrition, shopping on a budget and all those crazy rumors... LIVE from my home!"

The 36-year-old, pictured above just prior to her celebrity boxing bout, has reportedly signed a six-figure deal for her weekly show. The money will presumably go to help pay for the house Suleman and her 14 children live in, which she has been at risk of losing numerous times.

Nadya Suleman's oldest child, a boy named Elijah, is 10, while the octuplets will celebrate their third birthday on Jan. 26. Their names are Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Josiah, Jeremiah and Makai. All eight share the middle name Angel and Nadya's last name, Suleman.

The mother of octuplets and six other children says in her first video, "I do everything by myself. I'm a great caretaker of 14 kids... I'm a type 'A' personality -- workaholic, and there's really nothing I won't do, in regard to providing for my family."

Now Greyhound is ticked at Alec Baldwin

Posted by Johan

Alec Baldwin may be persona non grata with American Airlines, but now another transportation company has a beef with the actor. What happened?

Alec Baldwin

Between the not-so-friendly skies and the wide open road, transportation options are getting rather limited for Alec Baldwin these days.

Read Alec Baldwin's fake-out apology >>

The 30 Rock actor was booted from an American Airlines flight for refusing to turn off his phone after the doors were closed and, by way of explanation, later referred to the experience of flying as being as bad as "a Greyhound bus experience."

Guess who wasn't too fond of that negative comparison? Greyhound.

Alec Baldwin goes silent on Twitter >>

"First of all, we have hundreds of new buses in our fleet where we've added more legroom, leather seats, power outlets and free Wi-Fi," wrote Greyound President and CEO Dave Leach in an open letter to the actor. "I think you especially would find the latter two amenities exciting, because we don't require our customers to turn off their electronic devices… ever. You could therefore play Words With Friends during your entire trip and nobody would give you any grief over it."

Alec Baldwin was "extremely rude" and "offensive" says airline >>

"Should you still decide not to try us, even after I've shared with you all of the exciting changes we've made here at Greyhound, all I ask from you is a simple apology," Leach says. "We are not the same company we used to be... Greyhound is an American icon, a proud company that many people depend on to get them to their destinations, the same people who watch your films and TV show."

Somehow we don't think Leach should hold his breath waiting for that apology.

Christmas crafts to display in kids’ rooms

Posted by Johan

Sometimes Christmas doesn't extend past the main living areas of your house, but holiday decorations have a place in your children's havens, too. Here are ideas for Christmas crafts and holiday decorations to display in your kids' rooms so you can spread a little more cheer throughout your home.

christmas crafts

Whether your home has a peaceful nursery or kids’ rooms that are hubs of activity, there’s no reason you can’t bring the spirit of the season into your child’s personal living space. Try these six Christmas crafts and holiday decorations to make your child’s Christmas all the merrier.

O Tannenbaum

Kind of particular about how your evergreen is decked out in the family room? Get your little one a fake pre-lit mini-tree for their room. They can decorate it as they please with existing ornaments or, to keep them even busier, give them a supply of Christmas crafts so they can create their own dazzling danglers. Bonus: Those twinkle lights make a nice nightlight!

How to host a tree-trimming party >>

Christmas today, different tomorrow

If your child has an especially bare wall in their room, that might be just the place for holiday-themed wall decals. Or pick up a colorful collection of shapes, animals or even video game characters from a company like Blik so they can build their own abstract-looking Christmas tree. When it’s time to take down the holiday decorations, movable wall decals can be transformed into a new art form for your child’s room.

Countdown to Christmas

Advent calendars are one of the best things to help create anticipation for Christmas and Santa’s visit. You can find pop-up versions that tell the story of Christmas or one-time use calendars that offer a tiny gift or piece of candy behind each window . If you’re feeling especially artsy, create this Christmas craft out of fabric with a button or pocket to hold a moving bear or Santa Claus as a festive countdown to Christmas.

Hangin’ around

One thing kids teach us is to have a different perspective on life. So look up and decorate high -- on the ceiling, chandelier, light fixture or fan . Use the fixtures to hang ornaments, Christmas lights, construction paper chains or other Christmas crafts and your kids are sure to have sugarplum fairies dancing through their heads every night of December.

Cover up your head

Want your little ones to have even sweeter dreams? Invest in some festive Christmas bedding, like a Santa Claus quilt or pillows covered in characters from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. If you want to make sure this purchase is versatile throughout the year, go with solid colors of green, red and white so you can mix and match with other items in your kids’ rooms later on, or even shift the bedding to another room entirely.

Keep an eye on things

One last holiday decoration that’s sure to have your kids on their best behavior for Dec. 25? The Elf on the Shelf. He can pop up throughout the house -- but his presence may be most effective when he appears in your kids’ rooms, keeping a close eye on their activities and reporting back to Santa.

Teaching compassion through the holidays

Posted by Johan

As the holiday season moves into full swing, it's often the time of the year that brings to mind what you can get, get, get... and subsequently forget about the true spirit of the season! This year, encourage every member of your family, no matter what age, to be compassionate and to give of themselves during the holidays. The lessons learned will leave a lasting impression throughout the year and bring you even closer together as a family.

Giving Back

As the holiday season moves into full swing, it is often the time of the year that brings to mind what you can get, get, get... and subsequently forget about the true spirit of the season! This year, encourage every member of your family, no matter what age, to be compassionate and to give of themselves during the holidays. The lessons learned will leave a lasting impression throughout the year and bring you even closer together as a family.

Give thanks

Large or small, expressing thankfulness for the blessings in your life is important for you to model for even the youngest member of your family -- and not just on one day in November. Children need to know that the aspects of your life that are often taken for granted, such as running water, a roof over their heads, a warm place to sleep, and food on the table, are gifts. While it is customary to give thanks for family, friends and loved ones, making it a habit to count your blessings out loud all year round is just as essential to foster a sense of gratitude in your children.

Volunteer

As a family, take a break from the hustle and bustle by finding an organization with which to volunteer your time during the holidays, such as a soup kitchen, food pantry or even a nursing home where you can visit the residents. By giving of your time together as a family, you are encouraging selflessness and a sense of gratefulness for all that you have in your life. If you can afford to assist a needy family in your area, whether through a nonprofit organization or a church, synagogue or mosque, you can also have your children pick out and help wrap gifts for the family who would otherwise be going without this season. Make it fun -- adopt a family with children similar in age to your children, and have them shop with you to pick out a gift that they know the child their own age would love to receive. A good place to start is the Salvation Army, who has partnered with JCPenney this year to create The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree, which helps you to adopt an angel in your area, making their holiday merry and bright. You can adopt a group or individual, and JCPenney offers free shipping on purchases for your angel.

Go shopping -- for a cause

Find an organization that gives back when shopping this season. For instance, Krochet Kids International sells warm and snuggly knitted hats, stylish tees, hoodies, tote bags and more as gift ideas. This non-profit organization gives fair-wage crocheting jobs to women in Uganda and Peru, offering them economic stability in hopes of ending the cycle of poverty. Their motto? Buy a hat, change a life.

6 Ways to baby-proof your home for Christmas

Posted by Johan

Have a speedy baby in your house? If you think having a mobile child is tough now, Christmas trimmings will complicate matters tenfold. Here are six Christmas baby-proofing tips from safety experts to keep your festive house accident-free for your mobile baby or busy toddler.

babyproof for Christmas

Your little one is mobile and getting your home turned into a safe zone instead of a danger zone has been a challenge, no doubt. Now that it’s Christmastime, you want your child to enjoy the wonders of a tree, ornaments, stockings and other decorations -- but these additions to your decor can prove to be a whole new nightmare. Here’s how to create a hazard-free home without sacrificing any Christmas cheer.

1

Go light on the ornaments

Twinkle lights, dangling ornaments… your Christmas tree is beyond enticing. Plan your baby-proofing accordingly. “Block access to the tree with a play yard and keep the bottom of the tree free of hooks, tinsel and breakable ornaments,” recommends Michele Spahr of Safe Start Baby.

Those intriguing decorations could be harmful. “If an item can fit through a paper towel roll, it can be a potential choking hazard,” says John Drengenberg, consumer safety director for safety science company UL, who advises hanging fragile or glass ornaments at the top of your tree.

2

Secure the tree

Christmas tree tip-overs are a concern as well. If there’s a weak point in your tree’s sturdiness, your little one will find it from their vantage point. “Use bricks or other heavy items to weigh down your tree stand,” says Spahr. Consider an extra tie-down to keep it from toppling, adds Drengenberg.

3

Wires, wires everywhere

As you no doubt know by now, your curious child is a fan of wires. “Many electrical cords, including your string of lights, may be coated with plastic containing lead. Cover wires with wire cover or block your child’s access,” says Spahr. You may need to rethink light placement this year, or minimize the strands hanging around your house.

4

The holly and the ivy

“Many holiday plants are toxic to your baby , including holly, mistletoe and Pyracantha ,” says Spahr. What about the scarlet Christmas plant? “Despite popular belief, a child would have to eat more than 500 poinsettia leaves to be even potentially hazardous.”

Keep the kitchen clear

Table safety. If you’re a fan of tablecloths and runners, consider festive placemats until your child learns not to pull on dangling ends. Need the coverage? Secure with binder clips or duct tape edges under the table and keep chairs tucked in to avoid climbing, advises Spahr.

Holiday baking, Christmas Day feasts -- the kitchen is the heart of a home and is likely to be busier than Whoville during the whole of the season. Slow down and look around.  “Be certain your tot isn’t underfoot as hot food is dashed from kitchen to table,” says Spahr, who advises using back burners and turning pot handles toward the wall.

“Teach young children to always stay at least three feet away from the stove and show them what you mean,” says Drengenberg.

The final step in Christmas baby-proofing

When you think you’ve addressed every potential Christmas danger in your home, do just one more thing. “Take a tour from a kid’s eye view,” says Drengenberg. “Once all your decorations are hung, take a walk around your home from your child’s eye level to be sure you didn’t miss anything.”

Russian Kettlebells: The Ultimate 20 Minute Workout?

Posted by Johan

Guest blogger Alison Cool is a PhD candidate in Cultural Anthropology at New York University, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Sweden 2009-2010.  She has previously blogged for style.com, interview.com, and fashionista.com.

You may have seen Russian kettlebells – the strange, cannonball-shaped weights with U-shaped handles – at your local gym, or perhaps you’ve read about some of the celebrities like Lance Armstrong, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Biel who have joined this new exercise trend. We talked to expert kettlebell trainer Brook Benten to find out what you need to know about this fun, new fitness accessory.

Kettlebell routines involve a bottom-up swinging motion driven by the muscles in the lower body. As Brook explained, “there’s no such thing as target training. Unfortunately, that is not really possible. But the kettlebell does really focus on strengthening through the glutes and thighs, so if you are working out regularly and eating well, you will definitely see some toning in those areas.”

The kettlebell, originally used by Russian bodybuilders 300 years ago, can be adapted into workout routines for everyone from seasoned gym veterans to fitness newbies. According to a recent study from the American Council on Exercise, kettlebells deliver a remarkably effective workout that increases your balance and flexibility in addition to your strength and cardiovascular fitness. Participants in the kettlebell study burned an impressive average of 272 calories during a twenty minute workout.

As with all new exercise regimes, it is important to make sure you learn the proper technique to ensure that you don’t get hurt. Brook recommends that beginners get started with kettlebells weighing between 10 and 20 pounds for women, and between 15 and 30 pounds for men. For best results, train with kettlebells two to three times a week, with 24 to 48 hours of rest in between sessions. Yoga classes are a good complement to kettlebell training. “Yoga will stretch out tight areas to keep muscles and joints healthy so you can keep exercising and using the kettlebell for a long, long time.”

To avoid injury, Brook stresses the importance of getting started with a certified professional trainer who is trained specifically in kettlebells. For the budget conscious, look for online video tutorials to learn the correct form. Those with a limited range of motion in their hips or with lumbar spine injuries can start with Brook’s technique of “airballing,” or going through the same swinging movements without the kettlebell. Always remember to talk with your doctor before starting any new workout.

The American Council on Exercise’s kettlebell study also includes suggested workout routines with pictures of proper form. WebMD has a useful kettlebell review and guide and Lance Armstrong’s LiveStrong website offers additional kettlebell tips. For general strength training information, head over to MayoClinic.com.
