While the holidays are festive and kindle warm memories of family and friends, making it through them can be taxing. The shopping, cooking and planning that goes into making them wonderful might rob you and your sweetheart of your together time -- but it doesn't have to.

To learn more, we turned to Dr. Jacqueline Del Rosario. She shares her top relationship advice for finding quality time for your relationship -- despite the onslaught of seasonal stress.

Plan to succeed

Sometimes the only way to squeeze in time together is to schedule it. "Make a schedule and factor in alone time for the two of you at least once a week," Del Rosario says. "Treat that alone time like any other appointment, obligation or priority -- make it a must." By doing so, you and your partner will get on a routine of spending time together regularly no matter what kind of chaos swirls around you.

Make the most of your time

Do everyday things together as a way to build in time you can spend as a couple. For example, whenever you go to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for all those holiday dinners, go together. "You can help each other gather the groceries, unpack them and even cook the meals together," Del Rosario says. She also knows some couples that allot time to work out together. "They’ll spend 45 minutes every other day walking with each other, and during that time, they’re able to catch up on what they’ve missed." The point is to take advantage of the times you do have together.

Be a tech mate

Technology is often called out as being bad for relationships -- and it can be -- but sometimes it can help you. "Keep in touch with your partner by making the most of technology," Del Rosario says. "Have a quick phone or Skype date during your lunch hour or try sending a fun or sweet text message or email during the day."

The date after the date

After making the rounds and eating the festive dinners and deserts with friends and family, make arrangements for a party of two to unwind and reconnect, suggests Del Rosario. If you have kids, plan to have them stay over with family so that you two create an intimate celebration alone.
