Mindy McCready's dramatic ordeal involving the custody of her son, Zander, ended on Friday night when Arkansas police found the pair hiding in the closet of her boyfriend's home.
U.S. Marshals raided a home in Heber Springs, Arkansas late Friday night after several hours of surveillance.
"The child appeared to be in good condition when we found him ...he was in the closet with his mother," said David Rahbany, the chief deputy U.S. Marshal in eastern Arkansas.
The raid came three days after McCready disappeared with her son from Cape Coral, Florida. The troubled country singer failed to return the five-year-old to her mother's home after an unsupervised visit. The family soon filed a missing person's report.
Police later ordered the former Celebrity Rehab star to return her son by Thursday afternoon, but she failed to follow through. Instead, she corresponded with various media outlets proclaiming her intention to keep Zander with her.
"I'm a mom first," she told the AP. "No matter what happens, I'm going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it."
No charges were filed against the singer, though charges are possible in the future. Her mother and stepfather, Gayle and Michael Inge, are relieved that the ordeal is over, though they're worried for their pregnant daughter's well-being.
"We feel sorrow for Zander because he's traumatized and for Mindy," they said. "We just hope she does the right thing from here on out and that this is a wake-up call for her."
