Tonight's Dinner: White tomato pizza

Posted by Johan on Monday, December 12, 2011

Pizza's always delicious, but if you're not into tomato sauce, here's a pizza that has no sauce and is just as tasty.

Pizza is one of those delicious dinners that's always a big hit with the whole family. It's also usually delivered from the local pizza parlor. And while that makes it easy to get on the table on a busy night, it's usually not the healthiest option. It also limits what you can get on your pizza. But if you buy your own crust, you can put whatever toppings you want on the pizza. You can even skip the tomato sauce and use alfredo, or pesto or no sauce at all. I opted for the no sauce version and believe it or not I didn't miss it. The herbed crust, cheese and tomatoes were all I needed for a delicious, lighter version of the weekend classic.

White tomato pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of pizza dough
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella, divided
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons basil, freshly chopped

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Roll the dough out to a 12-inch diameter and place on a lightly oiled pizza pan.
  2. Sprinkle one cup of mozzarella over the pizza dough, dollop the ricotta evenly over the mozzarella. Top evenly with the sliced tomatoes. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and basil over the whole pizza. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese bubbles. Serve immediately.
