Man Candy Mondays: Kurt Warner

Posted by Johan on Monday, December 12, 2011

The Midwest sure grows 'em cute. Case in point: football superstar Kurt Warner, who has played quarterback for NFL teams including the St. Louis Rams, the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. And this cutie QB is as fiery-hot in person as he is on the field, which makes us want to hang out around the locker room. Or... maybe in it.

Hometown: Burlington, Iowa

Height: 6'2"

Why we love him

Super Bowl victories or not, Kurt Warner is a stand-by-your-woman family man who has used his fame to do extensive charity work for those less fortunate. Plus, he's cuter than cute!

Watching him play was enough to make us want to buy season tickets

Kurt Warner

Two-time MVP Warner skyrocketed to stardom as quarterback for the St. Louis Rams -- the team he played for from 1998 to 2003. He carried the team to its 1999 Super Bowl victory with a game-winning pass.

But before he became a household name, Warner lived out a rags-to-riches story. After playing for the University of Northern Iowa, he wasn't drafted in 1994's NFL draft. He then tried out for the Green Bay Packers, but the team's quarterback coach told him he wasn't yet ready for the NFL. Warner then got a job as a stockboy at the Hy-Vee in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He wouldn't attain fame until 1999, with the Rams, and after that, he'd go on to play for the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Before he retired, the last contract he signed was a two-year agreement with the Arizona Cardinals worth $23 million. Not too shabby!

No matter when the world started to notice Kurt, we knew early on that he looked smokin' hot in that uniform!

His family is his first priority

The reason Kurt retired from football in January 2010? To spend more time with his family, including his wife Brenda and seven children. Awwww! But he didn't retire entirely from the public spotlight. Later that year, he made an appearance on Dancing With the Stars with Anna Trebunskaya as his partner. The pair was booted in round eight, but he was a good sport!

"I learned a long time ago that life isn't about winning and losing competitions," Warner told MTV. "It's about relationships and impacting people. And so I thank everybody at Dancing With the Stars, because it gave me an opportunity to impact people and build relationships. So that's really what it's all about."

We love that kind of good sportsmanship -- on and off the field!

His charity work is incredible

First Things First Foundation

The First Things First Foundation, Kurt and Brenda's charity organization, helps sick children live their dream of going to Disney World, assists single parents in securing housing, mentors foster children, organizes coat drives, feeds the needy and much more. He cites his faith in God as spurring his charitable acts .

"Brenda and I have experienced extreme highs and lows -- and through it all our faith and our family are the fabric that holds everything together," Kurt says on the charity's website. "It is our wish to share these blessings and beliefs with others who have lost hope in themselves, their talents and life."

Kurt Warner's relationship status:

Brenda Carney

Kurt tied the knot with nurse and former Marine Brenda Carney on Oct. 11, 1997, five years after they met at a country-western line-dancing bar in 1992. She had two children from a previous marriage, including one child who suffered an injury as an infant and has special needs. Now they have seven children altogether. And from what Kurt has said, when he was on the field, they were never far from his mind.

"Every day I come home and it doesn't matter if you won or lost or have thrown touchdowns or interceptions; the one thing that I always knew is that when I entered that door, when I stepped in our house, that none of that mattered to these guys," ESPN reported. "I can't tell you how much of a blessing that is." Now that's a man who has his priorities straight!
