Christmas crafts for kids

These creative crafts are perfect for an older child or fun for children to do with parents. Put on some Christmas music, get out your craft supplies and have fun while you create lasting memories and Christmas decorations you can enjoy for years.

Styrofoam snowmen

This is an easy craft to do at home or as a school/class project. Customize your life-like snowman with different colors of ribbon and place him on a shelf to bring some holiday cheer -- and handmade love -- to your home.

Materials:

• 3 styrofoam balls -- 1 small, 1 medium and 1 large
• 1 dozen small black buttons
• Ribbon
• Orange pipecleaner
• 4 toothpicks
• All-purpose craft glue

Directions:

1. Stick one toothpick halfway into the large styrofoam ball.
2. Add a small amount of glue near the toothpick.
3. Place the medium styrofoam ball on the toothpick and hold together to adhere the styrofoam balls together.
4. Repeat the same steps with the medium and small styrofoam ball to form the entire snowman's body.
5. Glue two buttons on the small styrofoam ball to make eyes.
6. Glue a row of buttons on the small styrofoam ball to make a mouth.
7. Cut a small piece of the orange pipecleaner and stick it in the small styrofoam ball for the nose.
8. Glue three buttons down the center of the medium styrofoam ball.
9. Stick two toothpicks on the sides of the medium styrofoam balls for the arms.
10. Tie a piece of ribbon between the small and medium styrofoam ball to make a scarf.

Recycled can carolers

Here's a new spin on recycling! Save your soda cans to make some expressive Christmas carolers. The open top of the can creates an open mouth, which makes these fun carolers look like they are singing Christmas songs as they hang from your tree.

Materials:

• Soda can
• Acrylic paints
• All-purpose craft glue
• Googly eyes
• Yarn
• Scissors
• Ribbon

Directions:

1. Remove the pull-tab from the soda can.
2. Wearing hard-soled shoes, step on the can so it collapses straight down.
3. Paint the sides of the can with the acrylic paints.
4. Paint the top of the can -- ise the can opening as the mouth.
5. Apply two small dots of glue above the can opening and apply the googly eyes.
6. Glue strands of yarn above the eyes to make hair.
7. Let dry 
8. Poke a hole near the top of the can.
9. Thread the ribbon through the hole, tie it in a knot and hang it on your tree.

Fabric wreath

Create this beautiful and unique wreath to hang in your home for years to come. Just make sure you get a lot of fabric if you buy a large wreath form so it will look full, elaborate and festive.

Materials:

• Wire wreath form
• Fabric scraps or fabric yardage in Christmas colors and patterns
• Red or green ribbon
• Pinking shears

Directions:

1. Tip: Use pinking shears so that the fabric doesn't fray.
   With pinking sheers, cut long strips of fabric -- at least 4 inches long and 1 to 2 inches wide.
2. Double-knot each fabric piece around the wire wreath frame.
3. Make a bow out of the ribbon and attach it to the wreath.
