Holiday romance tips

One of the best ways to keep the romance revved up throughout the hectic holiday season is to come up with some traditions that are just for you and your spouse. This makes the holidays about more than just rushing around and trying to keep everyone else happy. We put together three ideas sure to inject a little more love into the season.

Mistletoe in the bedroom

Mistletoe isn’t just for holiday parties. String some up in the doorway to the bedroom or better yet, in various spots throughout your home. Whenever you and your man find yourselves under the must-smooch spot, share a kiss before going off to do whatever you were going to do. Incorporating mistletoe into your home forces you to slow down and appreciate each other during one of the more stressful times of year. You might not think you need a reminder to kiss, but Christmas is a busy time and one where you likely have so much going on that alone time isn’t often possible.

Holiday dinner for two

Choose one evening this month and make it just about the two of you. If you have kids, send them to a babysitter or their grandparents' house and have your own romantic holiday dinner. If you like to cook, decide on the menu together and cook up something delicious as a team. If you don’t feel like cooking, head to a local gourmet food shop to pick up some prepared goodies. Add a bottle of wine , light some candles, turn on some festive music and enjoy your Christmas dinner for two. Making this a tradition will be a respite from seasonal stress and give you something special to look forward to each year that’s just for you.

Homemade gifts

We’re not suggesting you forgo gifts altogether, but we love the idea of giving each other one handmade or DIY gift each year. Give yourselves a budget and a timeline and then get to work. The possibilities are endless. If you knit, make him a cute sleeve for his iPad. If he loves those triple chocolate cookies you never make, whip him up a batch. The point is to really get creative and show your love through something other than a price tag. Whatever you make doesn’t need to be complicated, but it should show some thought and caring. We’re willing to bet that the homemade gifts you create for each other become even more special than the ones that came from a store.
